“What’s my purpose?”

The question bounced around in Sky’s mind as he stared at the gorgeous cliffs of the Adriatic Sea below from the airplane’s window.

He was obsessed. Ever since his spiritual awakening began, Sky pursued his life’s purpose like he was tracking Bigfoot. The harder he tried to find it, the more elusive it became.

Sky had bulldog determination though. Every morning, he would sit and journal, revealing new aspects of his consciousness. He meditated every single day, with monk-like diligence, patiently awaiting answers. He wrote poetry, drew fantastical pieces of art, and even danced, hoping that creative expression might reveal his life’s purpose. He went so far as to quit his well-paying job and travel the world.

“Maybe I’ll find my purpose through travel,” Sky thought to himself as he bought his one-way flight to Europe.

Now, here he was, weeks into his travels, and still no divine revelation about his life’s purpose.

Sky stared out of the window at the beautiful sea, feeling an odd mix of awe and hopelessness. He looked down at his journal. “Maybe I should just give up. Maybe I’ll never find my purpose.”

The older man next to him glanced at the journal, then looked at Sky and asked, “So you’re trying to find your purpose, eh?”

Sky’s eyes lit up with excitement. “Yes. I’ve been doing everything to find it for the last 5 years.”

The man nodded, letting Sky continue. “I meditate and journal every day. I write poetry, even books. I draw. I dance. I give guidance to my friends and family when they need it. I even quit my job to travel the world, hoping this would help me find my purpose.”

As he finished speaking, Sky saw a twinkle of divinity in the man’s eyes. The older man smirked and said, “You’re doing all of this to find your life’s purpose…. But what if all of this IS your life’s purpose?”

Sky’s jaw dropped. The realization hit him like a tidal wave. “Whoa, yeah,” was all he could say.

The man placed a gentle hand on Sky’s shoulder. “You see, the journey is the destination and the destination is the journey. You have all of these beautiful expressions coming through, and yet you cannot appreciate them because you’re expecting them to get you something. Know that those expressions most likely ARE your purpose.”

He paused for a moment, allowing Sky to feel his words, then continued. “From this perspective, worlds open up to you. Not only will you enjoy it more, but you will create on a higher and higher level, magnetizing all kinds of abundance into your life.”

“That’s a good way of looking at it,” Sky said. “How did you learn that?”

The older man closed his eyes and took a deep breath, as if bringing memories into his consciousness.

“Well…” he started, “I used to be exactly like you. I was obsessed with knowing everything, especially my purpose here on Earth. After exhausting myself searching, I decided to quit and just live a simple life. As soon as I did this, it dawned on me. Our life’s purpose is more like a stream, a higher flow.”

“How do you know when you’re in the higher flow?” Sky asked.

The older man touched his heart-center before speaking. “It’s a feeling. When you feel joy, ease, expansiveness, creativity, freedom, enthusiasm, inspiration… Then you know you’re in the flow.”

“I feel that now,” Sky whispered, his face beaming like a kid on Christmas morning.

“Exactly,” the man responded. “You’re already in it.”
