Note: This is a Wikipedia-style article of my book Sozwik.

Sozwik is a visionary fiction novel by Stephen Parato, first published in 2024. It blends speculative fiction, spirituality, and metaphysical themes in a mythic, action-driven narrative. The story centers around an extraterrestrial Sasquatch shaman named Sozwik, who is sent to Earth and becomes entangled in a hidden war between multidimensional forces vying for control over consciousness.

Written in a mystical yet grounded tone, Sozwik challenges conventional belief systems, explores the nature of spiritual awakening, and investigates the unseen forces that influence human reality. Though it contains elements of fantasy and science fiction, the novel is firmly rooted in metaphysical and visionary traditions.

Background and Inspiration

Author Stephen Parato has described Sozwik as an unplanned but divinely guided creation. The initial spark came during a hike, when he wondered what it would be like to hear the distant hum of civilization for the first time. This moment of wonder, coupled with spontaneous inspiration—such as forming the name “Sozwik” from alphabet magnets on a fridge—led to the unfolding of the story.

Parato was also intrigued by the idea that Bigfoot, or Sasquatch, might be far more advanced than popular culture portrays. These elements coalesced into a narrative that explores spiritual truth, shamanic wisdom, and the dynamics of control and freedom on both Earth and other planes of existence.

Plot Summary

In Sozwik, an alien species known as the Jyoti live under the control of a corrupted vision-space known as The Guard. This parasitic force manipulates multiple species through psychological and metaphysical means, using advanced control structures and false narratives of hope.

The protagonist, Sozwik, is a telepathic Sasquatch-like being who was trained in a spiritual lineage known as the Wakans. Every generation, seven Jyoti are chosen to be sent to Earth under the illusion of freedom—an experiment designed by The Guard to observe and subtly punish those who seek truth.

Sozwik’s arrival on Earth triggers a cascade of events: spiritual revelations, chance encounters, and the collision of hidden agendas. Alongside Jenny, a human woman undergoing a spiritual awakening, and guided by his mentor Goa, a lighthearted and enigmatic elder, Sozwik begins to uncover the deeper nature of the cosmic struggle. Together, they navigate a reality where the boundaries between dimensions blur, and the battle for sovereignty extends far beyond Earth.

The story builds toward a climactic disclosure event, in which the veils of illusion are torn away, revealing the true architecture of control and the infinite potential of awakened beings.

Themes

Sozwik explores a wide range of spiritual and philosophical themes, including:

  • Inner truth vs. external control
  • Nonlinear time and multidimensional awareness
  • Shamanic journeying and vision-spaces (morphogenetic fields)
  • The illusion of freedom under corrupt systems
  • Soul contracts and cosmic initiation
  • The transformational power of love, intuition, and resistance

Genre and Style

While Sozwik can be categorized as visionary fiction, it draws upon elements of fantasyspiritual allegory, and soft science fiction. The tone is mystical and contemplative, yet anchored with enough action and intrigue to maintain narrative momentum. Readers have compared its emotional and spiritual resonance to works like The AlchemistThe Celestine Prophecy, and Bringers of the Dawn.

Characters

  • Sozwik – A young, extraterrestrial Sasquatch shaman from the Jyoti race. He is deeply curious, yet burdened by self-doubt and the weight of unseen forces shaping his destiny.
  • Goa – Sozwik’s mentor and spiritual guide. Wise, humorous, and mysterious, Goa carries the trickster energy often found in shamanic traditions.
  • Jenny – A human woman undergoing her own awakening. She shares an inexplicable, soul-level bond with Sozwik and plays a key role in Earth’s unfolding transformation.

Worldbuilding

  • The Jyoti – A telepathic species with access to astral “vision-spaces” that act as collective consciousness fields. Their natural spirituality has been suppressed by The Guard.
  • The Wakans – A lineage of interdimensional shamans who teach the path of inner mastery and cosmic alignment.
  • The Guard – A corrupted vision-space acting like a psychic virus. It controls entire species (including the Trakuls and Harka) and seeks dominion over Earth and the Jyoti.
  • Vision-Spaces – Astral or morphogenetic realms where species connect and exchange information. These can be sacred or corrupted, depending on the consciousness within them.
  • The Valley – A prison-like zone on the Jyoti homeworld, enclosed by forcefield fences, where most Jyoti live under strict control. The illusion of freedom (sending select Jyoti to Earth) is part of the control mechanism.

Reception

While underground in its reach, Sozwik has gained a cult following among readers who enjoy spiritually infused fiction with speculative twists. Fans have described it as “weirdly healing,” “a trip in the best way,” and “like Stranger Things, but if the monsters were metaphysical archetypes.”
